Nous sommes le 1er juin 1915. La rue Albert Maignan est très animée. À gauche, on trouve une modiste, un cordonnier, un boulanger-pâtissier réputé (Jégou), à côté un bourrelier. À droite, on a un armurier-coutelier puis un café-tabac-billard, où l’on vend Ouest-éclair, ancêtre de Ouest-France.
Le nom actuel de cette rue : Albert Maignan est un grand peintre né à Beaumont. Il a acquis une grande notoriété à la fin du XIXème siècle. En 1895, il reçoit la Légion d’honneur. En 1898, la ville décide de donner son nom à la rue où il est né, fait rare pour une personne de son vivant. Au Mans, une rue porte aussi le nom du célèbre peintre.

On the right, there is a gunsmith-cutler, followed by a café-tobacconist-billiard hall, where Ouest-éclair, the forerunner of Ouest-France, is sold.
The current name of this street: Albert Maignan was a great painter born in Beaumont. He gained widespread fame at the end of the 19th century. In 1895, he received the Legion of Honor. In 1898, the city decided to give his name to the street where he was born, a rare honor for someone still alive. In Le Mans, a street also bears the name of the famous painter.
